Take a Hike Kits

Each Take a Hike Kit contains items to help you and your family learn about nature while exploring your own backyard or one of our local parks.

The kit comes with a lightweight backpack containing a hiking journal, binoculars, a compass, an LED mini flashlight, a Pop Up Port-a-Bug, 4 Pocket Guides (Mushrooms, Bugs and Slugs, VA Birds, VA Trees and Wildflowers), maps of local trails, and suggestions for family activities.

The kit is available to any adult with a Ruby B. Archie Public Library card in good standing.

One kit may be checked out at a time for up to one week. The kit may be renewed one time.

Kits that are currently available can be found at the Customer Service desks on the first and second floor.

Holds may be placed on a Take a Hike Kit when none are available. The library will hold a kit for 3 days.
