Alonzo L. Jones was elected to City Council in 2010 and re-elected in 2014,2018, and 2022. He served as Vice Mayor from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2018. On July 1, 2018 he was elected by Council to serve as Mayor and was re-elected as Mayor in 2020 and 2022. Mr. Jones received his education in Danville Public Schools and served in the United States Armed Forces.
Mr. Jones serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Danville Area. Additionally, he is a Royal Mason at Danville Royal Lodge #104 and a member of American Legion Post 29. He is the Founder and President of One Accord Unlimited, Inc. and owner of JKLIPPERZ Barbershop. In February 2022, he received the Humanitarian Award from the Danville chapter of the NAACP in honor of his dedication and advocacy in the community. In 2023, he was awarded the Hall of Fame Award by Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Danville Area. In 2024, he received the Appreciation Award for his outstanding community service to the City of Danville from the Rho Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Mr. Jones is a past school board member for Danville Public Schools, appointed by Council in June 2004 and elected in 2006, a former Commissioner for Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, and former member of the BB&T Advisory Board.
