City Treasurer

Responsibilities

The Virginia Constitution created the elected office of Treasurer in 1870. The Treasurer's independent status as an elected official ensures that local funds will be accounted for by an officer who reports directly to the people.

The Treasurer's primary responsibilities include collecting and accounting for revenues for the City of Danville and for the State of Virginia. This office also provides free Notary services. It is our goal to provide the citizens of Danville with courteous, quality, and professional service.

Office Accreditation

In July 2020, the City of Danville Treasurer’s office became accredited for the first time through the Treasurers' Association of Virginia (TAV) under The Honorable Dr. Sheila Williamson-Branch, serving since 2016 as the City of Danville VA City Treasurer. The Office of Accreditation is a voluntary professional certification program overseen by the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia.

This accreditation process requires the office must successfully pass an outside audit with no findings of material weaknesses. The process requires proof of continuing education, written policies and procedures. Members adhere to a strict code of ethics and to the highest standards of performance.

These professional standards are now a routine way of operations for the Treasurer’s Office.
