Fireworks, fun set for July Fourth celebration
Danville Parks and Recreation invites the community to an evening of celebration, music, and fireworks on Friday, July 4 at the Carrington Pavilion. The Fourth of July festivities, sponsored by URW Community Federal Credit Union, will begin at 6 p.m.
Visitors can enjoy an exciting lineup of free activities and entertainment, including a live performance by the Danville Symphony Orchestra as well as inflatables, a foam party, a magician, and arts and crafts. Food and other vendors will be on-site with items available for purchase.
Fireworks will begin at dusk, launched from the southbound lane of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge (weather permitting).
“We love putting on this event because there’s something for everyone,” said Taylor Roberts, Program Coordinator for Danville Parks and Recreation. “It’s a chance for families and neighbors to come together, enjoy the festivities, and make memories.”
Pedestrians and motorists can expect changes to the traffic pattern beginning with the closure of the southbound lane at 1 p.m. The northbound lane and all access lanes will close at 8 p.m. The train trestle pedestrian bridge will close at 9 p.m. Sections of the Riverwalk Trail will also be closed.
The River District will remain accessible via Union Street Bridge or Industrial Avenue. Please pay close attention to all posted parking signs in and around the River District. Some areas may have time-limited parking, and violations could result in parking tickets. Be sure to park in designated areas and follow all regulations.
Danville Parks and Recreation’s offices will be closed on Friday, July 4. For more information, call 434.857.3384 or visit PlayDanvilleVA.com.
