City Council will meet on Tuesday, March 3, in a business session at 7 p.m., followed by a work session. Both sessions are open to the public.
The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St. River City TV will air this session live.
The work session will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.
At the business session, City Council is scheduled to vote on a federal grant to be used to pay for the salary and benefits for the youth services and gang violence prevention coordinator. The grant also will be used to pay other expenses related to Project Imagine, which is a work readiness program that gives gang-affiliated youth a future off the streets by providing them with a paid work experience and mentoring while on the job.
The grant is from the Department of Criminal Justice Services and covers expenditures through June 30, 2021. The funding includes $123,908 of federal funds and $25,208 of local funds for a total of $149,116.
City Council is scheduled to vote on several other matters:
- A request for a special use permit to allow a communication tower on a lot at 995 Piney Forest Road.
- A request for a special use permit to allow for a duplex at 120 Hurt St.
- A rezoning application from the Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority to allow for the construction of multi-family dwellings on property along Seeland Road and an unopened street labeled as future Haraway Lane. The project consists of 10 lots that will be consolidated into a parcel of approximately 2.9 acres.
- A rezoning application from Bibleway Church to allow for the construction of multi-family dwellings at 151 Grant St. and three lots on Garfield Street. The project consists of four lots that make up approximately 1.78 acres.

Council cannot vote on the grants Tuesday. The earliest vote that can take place will be the March 17 City Council meeting.
In the work session, City Council will consider appointments to boards and commissions. Also, City Council will hold a closed meeting as allowed by state law to discuss a prospective business or industry related to economic development and to discuss the acquisition of real property or disposition of publicly held real property.
