The Danville Police Department swore in 11 new officers during a ceremony Thursday, March 14, at 10 a.m. in the multipurpose room at 1 Community Way.

Family, friends, and members of the police department watched as one of the most diverse groups of individuals to take the Oath of Office was sworn into the Department, with four women and multiple ethnicities represented.

In addition to the oath, Officers Marlene E. Carlson, Chanston K. Cobbs, Kinsey A. Deering, Steven A. Dennis, Matthew P. Donegan-Cheney, Qadir J. Ferguson, Recardo R. Ford, Christopher M. Hodnett, Darius D. Hutchings, Hailey M. Sanchez, and Monica R. Sanchez were presented their badges, pinned, and took the Oath of Honor from Chief Chris Wiles.

“You represent the finest of our community, because you have chosen a path that demands calm in the midst of chaos, courage in the face of danger, and an unwavering commitment to use the authority you have been granted to protect and serve in a fair and impartial manner, honoring our constitution and our laws,” Chief Wiles said.

Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony was the second to be held at 1 Community Way since the Department moved to the new headquarters in August 2022.

During the ceremony, Mistress of Ceremony Beth Shackelford read the Oath of Office. Chief Wiles and Deputy Chief Tim Jones presented the recruits with their badges. Chaplain Jeff Lynch gave the invocation and Chaplain Bryant Booth gave benediction during the ceremony. Deputy Chief Jones also gave the Pledge of Allegiance.
