Staff at Danville Public Library are currently accepting submissions of short prose, essays, and poetry to be included in Words from Home, a literary journal to be published as a part of the Reflections of Home Arts Festival.
Library Director Russell Carter is hoping this will be the first of many publications.
“Every day, we walk through a building housing more than 62,000 titles from authors all over the globe; it would be an absolute pleasure for one of those titles to reflect the community in which we live,” he said. “The mission of our arts festival, now in its fourth year, is to celebrate the written, visual, and performing arts. We believe this was a great way to highlight the community.”
Citizens of Danville and Pittsylvania County can submit works through August 29. Submissions must be limited to 1500 words or less. Not all submissions will be included in the journal.
“We are excited for the first year of this program,” Carter said. “We are hoping for a lot of community involvement.”
Eligible submissions must be original, unassisted, unpublished work of the submitting author; short fiction, prose, short stories-in-verse, poetry, or personal essays; 1500 words or less; typed and available in a digital format.
Eligible authors must be age 13 or older, reside in Danville or Pittsylvania County, and agree to the rules regulating the publication. Authors may submit up to two entries regardless of category.
Submissions will be accepted online at reflectionsofdanville.com.
